As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and luck. The goal is to shift your pieces carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift her chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get hit, or result a bad position if he at all attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the movement of your competitor, the competitor doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to boost your odds of winning, however the Back Game technique relies on alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this plan, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
