As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and good luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the board to your home board and at the same time your opponent moves their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Strategy
If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her chips, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely block any movement of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, your competitor does not even get to toss the dice, and you shift your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.
The Back Game Technique
The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to better your odds of winning, but the Back Game strategy utilizes seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game plan is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
