The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2
February 26th, 2020 by Kaitlynn

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at particular times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon plans to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to move his chips, the Priming Game tactic is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or result a bad position if he ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you have successfully assembled the prime to prevent the movement of the opponent, your competitor does not even get to toss the dice, and you move your chips and toss the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions with hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game strategy relies on different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
