As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and good luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift their checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely stop any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you have successfully assembled the prime to block the movement of your competitor, the competitor doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions hoping to boost your chances of winning, but the Back Game plan uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
