The Essential Details of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two
July 15th, 2021 by Kaitlynn

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move her pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any movement of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a battered position if she ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. As soon as you’ve successfully built the prime to block the activity of your opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, that means you shift your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to better your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy uses different tactics to do that. The Back Game plan is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are moved is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
