The Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2
August 10th, 2023 by Kaitlynn

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and luck. The goal is to move your checkers carefully around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the two final Backgammon plans to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move their pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or result a battered position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point two and point 11 in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your competitor, your competitor does not even get to toss the dice, that means you shift your checkers and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to harm your competitor’s positions in hope to improve your chances of winning, however the Back Game technique utilizes seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally employed when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
