The Essential Details of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2
January 6th, 2024 by Kaitlynn

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to move your checkers carefully around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move his pieces, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely block any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a bad position if he/she ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point 11 in your game board. After you’ve successfully built the prime to block the movement of your opponent, the opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your chances of winning, but the Back Game technique utilizes different techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is frequently utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this technique, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
