The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2
September 16th, 2024 by Kaitlynn

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The goal is to move your checkers safely around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposition moves their pieces toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular techniques at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift his chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a battered position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be built anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. After you have successfully built the prime to block the movement of your opponent, the opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you shift your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, but the Back Game technique utilizes seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more difficult than others to employ in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
